The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology would like to announce the Russell Marker Lectures in Genetic Engineering. Fred M. Winston, John Emory Andrus Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School, will present the Russell Marker Lectures in Genetic Engineering on March 12 and 13, 2018, at the Penn State University Park campus.
Winston’s lab studies several aspects of eukaryotic gene transcription and chromatin structure in the yeasts Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Schizosaccharomyces pombe. He has made numerous contributions to the chromatin and transcription field, including the famous “SPT” screen, which identified many chromatin regulators. He has identified several conserved factors that play key roles in gene expression, including Spt6. His research has made important contributions in the areas of coactivators, chromatin remodeling factors, histones, general transcription factors, and noncoding transcription.
